AC Link
In the Genus, it’s first stage small single ended amplifier uses our proprietary AC link coupling technology to link it to the output stage. This technology uses the secondary winding of the first single ended amplifier to modulate the biasing circuits of the bigger 845 tube output stage. AC link coupling technology is used in all of our bigger amplifier models.
Power Supply
All four tubes have independent power supply units (PSUs) which are fed from dual 400VA toroid transformers, totaling 800VA. All four PSUs carry their own independent choke filtered capacitor bank.
The output stage power supply units use our tried and tested super capacitor technology. These top specification film capacitors have one to two orders of magnitude lower ESR and ESL than any electrolytic or film capacitor used in audio today, and have a maximum current surge specification exceeding 1000 amps!
Elrog 845 tubes
The Genus comes as standard with the best in class Elrog 845 tubes (new manufacture). These tubes are simply the best 845 available, and although more costly than others, and are our choice for the ultimate sonic performance. The two Elrog 845 directly heated triode (DHT) tubes use triple passively filtered filament PSUs.
All DHT tubes and especially the thoriated tungsten filament tubes, are extremely sensitive to noise present in their filament circuits. Our passively filtered system is fault proof and provides an extremely low noise floor with very high bandwidth and, as part our design philosophy, is without feedback.
Biasing
Bias of all four tubes, both the two the driver and two output tubes can be adjusted on the fly using the built-in bias meter, so you can tailor the sound to your taste, and also monitor the tube’s current with it’s constant readout.
A self resetting soft start is used to slowly build up the high voltages present and protect the tubes from any current surges at start up.
Headphone amplifier
More strings to it’s bow, the Genus has a headphone socket. It has quite possibly the best sonic performance of any headphone amplifier ever built. Headphones are fed directly from the same OPTs feeding the speaker output, via a 6.2mm headphone socket. The performance is incredible. It is user switchable to high or low output impedance for maximum compatibility.
Remote Control
Volume and input selection is controlled with the amplifiers built in relay system and supplied remote control, and included source selection and balance control. We find the uses of relays far exceeds the sound quality obtained by conventional potentiometers.
Inputs / Outputs
Inputs: 4 RCA pairs, 1 XLR pair (balanced). Outputs: 3 pairs of speaker posts and headphone out. Speaker output impedance is pre-configured on order from 1-16 ohms and is also user selectable using the impedance selector switch.
